Vernicia Winford, CNM

Vernicia Winford is originally from Chicago, IL. She grew up in Tennessee and completed her master’s in nursing specializing in both Nurse Midwifery and Family Nurse Practitioner at Vanderbilt University. Prior to her midwifery and nurse practitioner training, she earned her bachelor’s degree in biology at Xavier University and Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Western Kentucky University. Vernicia enjoys focusing on education and empowerment of women. She has a passion for individualized care, creating stronger partnerships with women, and educating their families in making confident decisions while in labor and during their delivery. Vernicia also has a passion for mentoring to help the advancement and development of those who also strive to make a difference in others’ lives. She is the former Chair for American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) Midwives of Color Committee (MOCC) Mentoring Program working to match midwifery students nationally with midwives of color. While at Western Kentucky University, she co-founded and presided over the Minority Nursing Student Organization mentoring program. During Vernicia’s time off, she loves to cook, dance, and travel. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and two fur babies, Queenie and Armani
