Atlanta Women’s Health Group (AWHG) is the parent organization for a consortium of Obstetrics & Gynecology practices that serve the Atlanta Metropolitan and Athens Metropolitan areas. AWHG has assembled a team of experienced and dedicated Obstetrician/Gynecologists to staff the OB/GYN hospitalist program at Northside Hospital-Cherokee and Northside Forsyth Hospital. AWHG is more than 100-physician strong and collectively is one of the largest OB/GYN groups in the southeast responsible for serving approximately 300,000 patients representing over 400,000 visits annually and delivering approximately 12,000 babies annually.

An Ob-GYN hospitalist program serving the 3-hospital Northside System is a natural extension of the services that we offer to the North Atlanta Metro community.

All of our hospitalists are board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. They are certified in adult resuscitation and have a minimum of 5years of Labor and Delivery experience. Our hospitalist are proficient in managing women in labor, complex obstetric cases and gynecologic emergencies. Larry Weinstein, MD
Larry Weinstein, MD

Born and raised in New York City, Dr. Weinstein studied at the 7 years combined BS/MD program at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. He received his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1990. Following medical school, he completed his four-year residency in Obstetrics/Gynecology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Upon completion, he joined a medical practice in New York where he performed low and high-risk obstetrics in addition to advanced laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. He along with his family moved to Atlanta in 1999 where he joined an established practice working out of Northside Hospital Sandy Springs. His major interest in low and high-risk obstetrics was the main reason for him joining the AWHG Obstetric Hospitalist group in October 2018.

He is currently living in Alpharetta with his wife Cecilia. Dr. Weinstein has a son who is presently a medical student and a daughter who is starting her Undergraduate Studies in the Fall. He and his wife are avid tennis players who spend much of their free time with their Vizsla named Tesla. His interests include tennis, cycling, squash, progressive rock music, and traveling.

Dr. Joel Higgins

Originally from Augusta, GA Dr. Higgins grew up in Georgia and South Carolina. Subsequently, he received a bachelor of engineering science and mechanics degree from Georgia Tech. He attended medical school at the University of South Carolina and returned to Georgia for residency training in gynecology and obstetrics at Emory University. Dr. Higgins strives to take the best care of his patients and is proud to be working with a fine group of physicians and at Northside Hospital. When not at work he enjoys spending time with family, attending his church and watching football.

Dr. Laura Gibbs
Dr. Laura Gibbs

Dr. Laura Gibbs was born and raised in Douglasville, GA. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. In 2007, Dr. Gibbs received her Medical Doctorate and in 2012 completed her residency training at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. She is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Gibbs is an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and enjoys traveling and gardening in her free time. She joined Atlanta Women’s Health Group in November, 2017 as an OB/GYN hospitalist.

Dr. Dominik Kissing
Dr. Dominik Kissing
Dr. Kissing was born in Cologne, Germany and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Cologne  – Medical School.
He completed his residency at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI and received fellowship training at the University Hospital in Dusseldorf and Duren, Germany.
Dr. Kissing is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Asa Peek
Dr. Asa Peek
A native of Georgia, Dr Peek graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia in 1993,  He then attended the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences where he received a Doctor of Osteopathy degree. After completing his residency at East Tennessee State University, he returned to his home town of Rome when he established himself in private practice.  For the past three years, he was worked exclusively as a hospitalist specializing in the care of women during labor and delivery as well as providing emergency gynecologic care.
He joined AWHG as a hospitalist in July of 2017 to be closer to his three children.
He is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Demetria Aaron
Dr. Demetria Aaron
Dr. Demetria Aaron is a board certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist and a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Dr. Aaron was born and raised in Macon, Georgia.  She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. She was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy Reserves while attending Morehouse School of Medicine, where she earned her medical degree.  She began her active duty career as a resident at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. After completing her residency training, she joined the medical staff at the Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy as a staff physician.  She later transferred to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune and served as chair of the Perinatal Advisory Board.
Dr. Aaron was a part of the medical team aboard the USNS Comfort in support of Continuing Promise in 2011 and was a Women’s Health Subject Matter Expert for Pacific Partnership in 2014.  Dr. Aaron continues to serve in the US Navy Reserves.  She is an avid photographer who enjoys cooking, traveling, hiking, and shopping.
